Review

This lodge is one of most luxurious in all of Bwindi (we would say on par with Bwindi Lodge). The property feels more ‘safari-like’ as the main area is all open-plan, with a fire pit and a bar area tempting you in before dinner. The rooms are spacious and cosy, made from canvas and build in en-suite bathrooms and an outdoor bath. Overall a very nice property!

Location

This camp is located a 10-minute walk from the park headquarters at Bwindi National Park. It is a little further along the road from the town so it benefits from being a little quieter than those that are closer to Bwindi Town. The lodge is set amongst the thicket of the forest so you feel you are in the middle of the jungle… a wonderful experience!

Layout

The main area of the property is open-plan, with a lounge area, bar and restaurant designed to welcome you in. There is a garden area outside the lounge with a rounded fireplace to sit and enjoy a sundowner before your evening meal. The rooms are all located to the right of the main area along a stone pathway. The rooms are relatively close together – the vegetation makes it private but the sound travels.

Rooms

The nice thing about this camp compared to others in Bwindi is that they are essentially canvassed tented camps. The rooms are on raised wooden platforms but the overall structure is strong canvas. There are two large beds, a desk area with a charging station, ensuite bathrooms, an outdoor free-standing bath and a private veranda. Each room has its own WiFi connection (not available in the main area).

Activities

Tracking to see the mountain gorillas is the main attraction! Most clients will do one trek but we would advise, if possible, to book two treks. The reason being is that the hour you get with the gorillas goes so quickly, and before you know it, you are trekking back to your lodge! The second trek gives you the chance to just stand and watch them, without being focussed on your camera getting that perfect shot. The lodge will give you packed lunch and sturdy walking sticks if you require. They will also do your laundry and clean your walking boots after your trek, free of charge.
