Review

Sat in the remote southeastern area of the Serengeti, Kusini Camp overlooks the peaceful game-filled plains that impress throughout the year. As the only permanent camp in the southern plains, the camp offers very reasonable and comfortable accommodation with 12 tents spaciously placed in the woodland. The camp takes full advantage of the kopjes it sits on, offering romantic sundowners and cosmic experiences in the evening.

Location

Kusini Camp sits on a rocky outcrop in the southern plains of the Serengeti National Park. The camp is positioned on the path of the wildebeest migration, who congregate on the grassy plains in the calving season from mid-December to March. The location is renowned for seeing the large predators – lion, cheetah and the elusive leopard – which can be seen lying in the kopjes nearby.

Layout

The camp is made of 12 en-suite tents that are spread spaciously under the shade of acacia trees. Sat on a rocky kopje, the main mess area includes a dining area, a lounge, a library and of course, a true safari style campfire. These areas encourage guests to relax, sit back and enjoy the peacefulness of the bush before or after dinner.

Rooms

The tents are all nestled amongst the woodland for seclusion and privacy… the perfect hideaway for casual game viewing. Each tent has a private wooden veranda which provide a great opportunity for an armchair safari, watching the likes of zebra, buffalo and lion if you’re lucky! The en-suites are well appointed, with flushing toilets and hot running water for a refreshing shower after an exciting day out in the bush!

Activities

Game viewing around Kusini is fantastic, as it is one of the best places to see the big cats lounging in nearby kopjes. During the months of January to March, the great migration cover the plains of the southern Serengeti and give birth to their young which is incredible to see on game drives from Kusini and birding is also parciuarly good on the forest edge. Additionally, Kusini Camp emphasizes the beauty of the cosmic safari and place comfortable cushions on the top of the main kopje for guests to lay back and enjoy the bright African sky. The camp also contributes to the Serengeti Cheetah Project and encourages guests to get interested and involved. In recognition, the Cheetah Project has named one long-lost cheetah "Kusini".
