Review

Located off to the west of the Jao concession, in the north western corner of the Okavango Delta, Tubu Tree Camp and Little Tubu Camp are certainly two of the best and busiest camps in both the concession and the delta. Being located on the game rich Hunda Island, allows great game viewing from the decks and walkways that epitomise the property and, as such, it is often difficult to get space in the main seasons. That being said, it is well worth it and so we would definitely recommend giving it a try!

Location

Situated off in the western corner of the delta, on the very productive Hunda Island, has allowed Tubu Tree and, more recently, Little Tubu Camps to slowly gain a reputation for being very well priced, multi activity camps in the delta. The camps themselves have stunning views out across the floodplains that surround this large island but, at the end of the day, as the floods arrive to the region around the end of April, it becomes all about the game!

Layout

As with the other properties in the concession, Tubu Tree Camp is made up of 8 raised rooms that all look out to the floodplains that surround the eastern side of Hunda Island. Little Tubu Camp occurred as Tubu Tree expanded and they realised that, due to the spread out nature of the main camp, it was becoming unreasonable to expect clients to walk from one end of the camp to the other to get to the main areas. This has meant that Little Tubu has its own swimming pool, lounge area and comprises just 3 tented rooms.

Rooms

Set in amongst the palms and trees that fringe the main island, all of the tented rooms are set on their own stilted plinths and offer spectacular views out across the grasslands. With a covered decking area to the front the interiors are fairly simple but very comfortable.

Activities

As is mentioned above, these are the certainly the best camps in the Jao Concession for game viewing in the main flood seasons between May and November on land but, as it is also surrounded by water, it is then also, seasonally, possible to do mokoro activities and speed boat excursions.

Due to get an upgrade as it is feeling a bit ‘older’ than the other camps
