Location
Set at approximately a 30 minute drive from the main town of Kasane, Chobe Game Lodge is located on a quiet stretch of the Chobe River front, looking directly across to the Namibian floodplains. This location allows them to make the most of the relatively quiet waters to the west of the property rather than getting stuck up in the much busier waters that are to the east and closer to Kasane.
Layout
All of the rooms have an aspect onto the river and stretch out on either side from the main area which contains the pool, 2 bars and dining areas. In the evening it is possible to wander down to the boma area to see some traditional dancing or to have a sundowner as it sets over the Chobe River. Considering the size of the property, the layout has a comfortable and intimate feel, in particular the main areas and the bar area at the top of the building which is arguably one of the best in the region!
Rooms
All of the 44 rooms (40 standard rooms and 4 suites with plunge pool) are well appointed and underwent a refurbishment in 2018. Each of them has been refurbished in a subdued manner with the curved ceilings and muted colour palette giving a very earth feel. with an open and spacious outdoor patio to all of them, they offer a good base for explorations of the Chobe!
Activities
Being inside of the Chobe National Park definitely benefits the property from having an extra bit of time to explore the park over its rivals and the property has recently pioneered the use of electric powered Landcruisers and boats and so upping its eco-credentials. As this is the Chobe the main focus is, of course, on the multitude of elephant that come down to the waters’ edge throughout the day, but it is still also possible to head into the park and find all sorts of species that are also drawn here in, in particular, the drier months between April and November.
