Well, what is there to say about Ras Kutani Hotel? This has been one of our best selling properties for nearly a decade and it does not look like it will stop. As with a few other properties around Tanzania (Greystoke’s Mahale and Mwagusi spring to mind), there is something that they have just managed to get right at Ras Kutani. The service is great, the accommodation (particularly the suites) are superb, and it simply just fits the bill! (and even that is not too high!)

Location

One thing that has always been a great selling point about Ras Kutani Hotel is the location. Set only a 15 minute flight down the coast from Dar es Salaam (but a 2 hour drive, and hence why this area has never been overrun with lodges), this is the perfect place to start or end a trip to Tanzania.

Set in amongst natural forest, running right up to the deserted and untamed beach, the lodge “emerges” out of the trees and almost feels part of the nature here. It is not abnormal to wake up to find a troop of vervet monkeys wandering around outside your room, curious to see what you are up to. It was once possible to even see elephant in the surrounding areas, occasionally wandering down to the ocean to wash, but they have moved away these days.

Rooms

Each of the rooms at Ras Kutani offers a great experience, with the lagoon and beach rooms being the entry level, and then the fantastic suites, set high up on the hillside, being the best, with their vistas across the bay and cool breezes. The interiors are, again, very well thought out, simple palm matting softens everything down, and the vast beds providing a comfortable nights sleep in the African nature.

Facilities

The communal areas and service are, again, superb…they now also offer the opportunity to upgrade the rate from full board to all inclusive so you now need not worry about how many of the sumptuous cocktails you take before another great supper! Truly a wonderful experience and recommended to everyone!

Feedback

To be honest, the hotel/camp is now very outdated and showing signs of wear and tear. Whilst the accommodation is generally comfortable enough, some things are just not right hence the refurbishment. Having said that it was nice to relax there after the safaris. The food was very good indeed although the service is not up to the standards at Siwandu but then this is a beach resort after all!

Arrived back today, a brilliant 3 weeks, ending in style at Ras Kutani. Thank you very much for organizing the beach trip for us. It was really fantastic. We had a 4 seater Cessna take us there and, incredibly, a 14 seater plane picked just us up! Simon and Julia are very lovely and run the place so well.we were upgraded to a suite with our own plunge pool and outdoor seating. The food and staff are amazing, a real 5 star relaxing luxury experience.

We absolutely loved Ras Kutani, it was perfect for us, almost the beach to ourselves! The only thing was I found the steps down to the rowing boat on arrival a bit difficult. But we would go there again despite the steps! They made a little cake for me when Mike let on it was my 70th B'day!

After how good Breezes and Ras Nungwi were I don’t think we could have imagined that Kutani could raise the bar but it really is an amazing place. The food there was simply the best we’ve ever had and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We really were able to totally chill out and enjoy the last 2 days of our trip, we were really glad you recommended it so highly and we had decided to go.

Ras Kutani provided the perfect start after the excitement of the wedding activities and we really enjoyed the setting, the food and the service. To be honest we did nothing but sleep on the beach for the whole three days - just what the doctor ordered!
