Review

Finished in June 2012, Nomad's Lamai had been a pretty long time coming but the wait has definitely been worthwhile. Located on the very scenic Wogakuria Kopjes, around 30 minutes from the Mara River crossings, the camp could not have better views and location in our opinion. Featuring an infinity swimming pool, stunning vistas from throughout the property and the kind of bush chic that regularly appears in magazines, this is certainly one of the top, if not the top, property in the northern region of the Serengeti at the moment.

Location

Perched atop the scenic rocky outcrops of the Wogakurya kopjes, the camp is in an ideal location for visiting the migrations herds both on the open plains of the Lamai wedge, north of the Mara River, and the dotted scrubland to the south of the river. This region of the Serengeti is a firm favourite of ours and, as such, we can’t speak more highly.

Layout

The rooms have all been cleverly incorporated into, onto and around the rocks that form the kopje and, as such, they each have a unique and intriguing position, both with privacy and expansive views. The main area, similarly, offers exceptional views out to the plains below and gives a feel of being perched atop a big rock!

Rooms

The rooms have been very well thought out and designed with each offering something slightly different from the next. Featuring spacious and airy rooms, his and hers shower rooms with ensuite facilities and expansive decks on which to relax, there is nothing that hasn’t been considered or catered to. It is worth bearing in mind that this is not really a camp for the less mobile.

Activities

As with all of the properties in this area of the Serengeti, all of the activities revolve around walking or driving (sometimes off road) either out on the plains or in amongst the rock formations. This is such a good area for game viewing year round that there is little you will want to do other than try and take in as much as possible!

Feedback

Mkombe’s house was probably the nicest place we had ever stayed, given the circumstances, and the atmosphere with the Keare’s and our hosts (Babu and Joel the guide) made it unforgettable. Two leopard sightings and seeing the wildebeest herd was epic. Some of our favourite sightings in this area: female leopard on rock looking at sunset, herd of elephant near the lodge, second leopard in tree, 50k+ wildebeest and 2k+ zebra on migration, 2 male lions on morning just before we left.
