Kilindi Beach Resort

- the resort itself is incredible, beautiful and welcoming (if that is the style you are looking for).
- The room (we had #3) was very well located and so pleasant that we did not really want to go anywhere. We did walk the beach to the dive shop and way past that. It was nice to see but oh so pleasant to know that we did not “live there” as it was too crowded, thumping music and just not our style.
The space and how everything is in the room is very nice. We did ask to have them light candles at night in the bathroom rather than using electricity and it made it softer and why not saving energy. If I was to make the comment there I would suggest that there is some kind of connection for at what time the guests would want their room to be cleaned. Small details.
- The food: perfect, we loved it. So often when a resort is all inclusive my husband and I get worried about it as it can be so-so, but here it was lovely.
- Service of the butler: good but not excellent. We had Mahanuy who has been there for 3 years, was a pleasant person but did not have a smiley personality. He would be good about asking the important things (what time do you want breakfast, where, etc.??) but once he would bring the food he would leave without a word (I do believe that it is his personality but it can be changed and it did as we mentioned it to the manager Dorette). But we did have some encounters with another butler (Victoria) and she was very good (she is the head butler so she can maybe pass on this energy to some of the others – but then again as she is a lady she may have a hard time to have the men listen to her). These are overall small details but in these kind of resorts, once the place is beautiful, the food is fine cuisine, the biggest difference will be the service (how to go from very good to excellent).
- Spa: excellent, very nice ladies and in a beautiful surrounding.
- Management: We met 3 of them men (Peter, Dorette and Simon). Peter is and can be a pleasant man but seemed pre-occupied and would even walk buy us without saying hello. Dorette is undoubtedly the best there, she is very present, bubbly and seems truly concerned about each guest desire, great personality. Simon is also a nice man and also present and trying to be very helpful but sometimes did not seem to understand our questions. This could be the result of language barrier.
- Diving: we did enjoyed it, the visibility was good on the first day but only ok on the 2nd day. The dive boat was very slow, and not the most comfortable. Our dive master was the best in the crew that we did meet, his name is Fadhil. He was funny but serious and helpful. There was another man/dive instructor was there and new from Mombassa who also was very good. But some of the other were busy on their cell phone or ???.
Overall experience quite different from what we are used to in the Caribbean and Mexico/Cozumel.

On a final note and maybe the most important, it was wonderful holiday and yes we would recommend the place to our friends and yes if we would go back to Zanzibar we would certainly consider returning at the Kilindi Resort and we would be happy to use your services.

We found Kilindi to be everything you said it would be and having spotted a few alternative hotels along the North shore we are REALLY REALLY glad that we went for Kilindi.

Its location is perfect to give you that sense of being a bit separate from the rest of the crowd, but if you want to join the Italians in their nightly Bunga Bunga parties you can (we didn’t)! We also liked being so close to the local fishing village and seeing the daily activities, men fixing up their boats, women fishing, and no overly pushy beach sellers; apart from Captain Omar who continuously tried to sell us trips to see Dolphins, but he got the message after a couple of days!

I think we both felt that the staff really make the whole Kilindi experience that extra bit special – yes the locations is amazing and the turquoise seas and white sands are fantastic, but these are available in lots of places. At Kilindi everyone was genuine and helpful without being too intrusive, when we did experience really minor problems these were taken seriously and real efforts made to improve rather than just being ignored. We also loved the size of the place and the feeling of exclusivity and privacy. I think we only left our villa for dinner a couple of times in the first few days as we were so happy to just chill out on our own by our plunge pools. The villas were beautifully designed and we loved the openness of the rooms and the bathroom.

Kilindi also gave us just what we needed to unwind again before having to think about returning to reality... The management there also was very keen to make sure people were having a good time and had everything they needed. They couldn't do anything about the rain though! Luckily the afternoons tended to clear up so we still got plenty of beach and pool time :)
