Review

The sister property to both the Breezes and Baraza, The Palms was the first truly high end property on Zanzibar and, while it has had new competition over the years, it still offers something a little different. The main reason that it has managed to remain as popular as ever is the fact that, while it is located on a fairly thin strip of land, it is still very small and so the onus is on the service and the general feeling of exclusivity. With access to the many facilities of Breezes, it is no wonder that many keep coming back.

Beach

The beach that runs from the Palms right through to point at the north is one of the most spectacular that we have seen on the island. Again, at low tide, there is a lot of beach exposed, but, for most of the time, this is a truly spectacular sight with pristine and powder white sand. Definitely one of the best beaches on the island…the only potential drawback these days is the increase of beach sellers.

Rooms

Each of the luxury villas in the Palms is very spacious and crammed with all of the amenities that you would expect from this level of property. All have tvs with dvd players, aricon, a full lounge area and vast bed and bathrooms. On top of this, outside also features a private Jacuzzi and lounge area.

Layout

As mentioned in the overview, the physical plot of land that the Palms is on is fairly thin and, as such, the villas are slightly closer than we would have ideally placed them…but this is not the end of the world and there is still a good amount of room between them. Otherwise, the hotel is very well laid out, with a good dining area on one side, a good sized pool in the centre (with a second restaurant) and your own gazebo directly on the beach.

Features

The key to the Palms it the facilities and features! The rooms are a really good size, and every amenity is catered for…but the service is exceptional. Anything that you should be after is quickly found and brought to you!

Feedback

Zanzibar was also beautiful, despite a bit of stormy weather, we had a wonderful time there and were treated like royalty. The Palms is very characterful and so comfortable with the most spectacular views. We also spend a day at the Zawadi, the views from there are really something else! I will fill in the review and send some pics separately. Unfortunately it's back to earth with a bump going back to work!

Hi Gemma

Just wanted to say thank you so much for recommending The Palms what a wonderful relaxing place it is, the staff are so welcoming, friendly and can't do enough for you, the food is sublime only 'complaint' too much of it!!!

We were in fact very spoilt the whole trip, upgraded to First there and back, a room upgrade to a wonderful sea view at The Hyatt and thoroughly spoilt on our anniversary at The Palms - and it wasn't even a special anniversary.

Hi Nick,

I’m all rested and I would go back tomorrow in Zanzibar… The Palms was quite impressive… we decided to put our first ever review on tripadvisor as the Manager asked us and our title was “Our own private paradise” ;-) We did it because Siriak (the Manager) was really kind and helpful… The staff were always smiling and present just when we needed it… I felt like a princess (read: not used to that kind of service J).

On the plus side it was great that we stayed at the Palms as I got both tonsillitis and an ear infection en route to Zanzibar (just my luck) but the next door sister property (Breezes?) had a nurse and a fully stocked pharmacy and thus was able to get better and enjoy my holiday without the need to look for a doctor in Zanzibar. The Palms staff were also great in caring for me while sick.
