Matemwe Retreat

Beach

To the north of Matemwe village and its sister property, Matemwe Bungalows, means that the beach up at Matemwe Retreat is starting to give way to the coral ledge that surrounds the northern rim of the island. This is not to say that there is no beach at all, more that the beach here is a bit “temperamental” and so can be elusive.

Rooms

The main rooms (of which there are now 4) at Matemwe Retreat are of a very good size and, being set up on the coral ledge, afford great views out to the lagoon and Mnemba Island in the distance. The balcony area and the bedroom are probably the best feature of the Retreats as there is a comfortable and easy feel to them, with a small dining area in the corner to eat. Upstairs is the lounging area and the views are, again, very good. A small plunge pool rounds it off well.

Layout

Set right to the north of the Matemwe cluster, there is a fair chunk of space between each of the Retreats and so there are no issues of privacy. What is worth noting is that, while you are invited to use all of the facilities of Matemwe Main, it is a long walk to get to the pool and certainly wouldn't be something we would want to do that regularly. Otherwise, the villas themselves are well laid out and certainly make sense on the whole.
